Your new Tesla Model Y Juniper is on order or maybe already in your driveway. Should you install paint protection film (PPF), is a ceramic coating enough, or would it make the most sense to protect the whole car?
The answer depends above all on four things: how much you drive, what kind of roads you drive on, the color of your car and how long you plan to keep it.
Protecting a Tesla Model Y Juniper can cost a few hundred euros or several thousand. A bigger budget means wider protection, but that does not automatically make the most expensive option the right one for you.
At Restyling Point we have protected hundreds of Teslas. To be exact, we have done 653 Tesla Model Y cars since 2022 and more than 2,500 Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model 3 Highland cars.
In this guide we go through what a new Model Y Juniper owner should pay attention to, which PPF packages are available and how the way you use your car affects our recommendation.
Which parts of the Tesla Model Y Juniper should you protect first?
If the budget does not cover the whole car, start with the surfaces that take the most stone chips, abrasion and other everyday wear.
1. Lower door edges – an area not to forget
When protecting earlier Tesla Model Y model years, we have paid special attention to the lower edges of the doors.
Sand, gravel and studs thrown up by the tires hit the sides of the car, and the lower parts of the doors can show visible damage after relatively few miles.
Earlier Model Y cars also came with small pieces of protective film installed at the factory. Their coverage, however, was limited.
With the Juniper, we check the body and any factory protection before planning additional protection. A solution made for the older Model Y should not be copied to the new body style automatically.
For the lower door edges we recommend the wider version: on the rear door, a larger protected panel reaches almost up to the handle, as shown in more detail in this video. It prevents exactly the real-world damage caused by debris flying from the front tires onto the curved paint of the rear door.
It is almost the same solution as on the latest Porsche Panamera and Porsche 911 models, which come with protective film panels from the factory.
Who do we recommend it for? Especially for drivers who drive a lot, and for those whose daily routes include highways, sanded roads or gravel roads. Unprotected areas of the rear door panel unfortunately get damaged in every color through normal wear.
2. Front bumper – first in line for stone chips
The front bumper is one of the parts of the car most exposed to stone chips.
It sits low, but its forward-facing surfaces take the debris thrown from the tires of the cars ahead.
The bumper can also get damaged when parking, for example from light scrapes.
PPF helps protect the paint from many small kinds of damage, but it does not make the bumper crash-proof. A hard impact can damage both the film and the paint under it.
3. Hood – even small damage can show clearly
The hood is a large and visible painted surface. It is close to standing height and eye level, which is why damage on the hood is easy to see.
Even though the hood sits at a different angle than the front bumper, stones hit it too. Even small marks can stand out clearly, for example on dark paint.
If the goal is to keep the car looking as good as possible for several years, the hood is among the first areas we recommend protecting on the Tesla Model Y Juniper.
4. Front fenders and side mirrors
The front parts of the front fenders are exposed to stone chips, especially near the headlights.
The side mirrors stick out from the car and take dirt and small impacts from the road.
If the budget is limited, the front fenders and side mirrors are areas where the decision can be made case by case. To save money, the side mirrors and front fenders are exactly where to cut back, leaving the priority on the hood and front bumper of the Tesla Model Y Juniper.
5. Interior door sills – especially for families with children
Interior door sills usually do not suffer from stone chips, but from shoes, sand and getting in and out of the car all the time.
In a family with children, the rear door sills can take a lot of wear. Small children easily use them as steps when climbing into the car.
Dogs use the interior sills as a step too, just like the youngest children, so a small investment here helps protect against bigger damage in the future.
PPF on the interior door sills is therefore often a sensible addition, even if only a small package is chosen for the outside of the car. With a limited budget, the priority should still go to the outside of the car, because the interior surfaces are not visible – only when the doors are open.
Tesla Model Y Juniper PPF price list – six options for different budgets
Restyling Point’s Model Y price list has 6 protection options. The prices below include 25.5% VAT and are based on our Model Y Juniper 2025–2027 price list. The final price for the Juniper and the fit of the protected areas are confirmed before you order.
Basic – €299: small everyday wear areas
The Basic package for the Tesla Model Y Juniper includes:
- Lower door edges, 4 pcs
- Lower edges of the front fenders, 2 pcs
Basic is an option for drivers who want to protect selected high-wear areas on the smallest possible budget.
We recommend extending the Basic package at the rear doors to the wider version, the so-called Basic Plus (€497), which adds a large panel to both rear doors, as shown in the video.
Who is Basic for?
If you drive relatively little, mainly use the car in the city or do not want to invest in wider protection, Basic can be a sensible start.
It is good to understand, however, that this package does not protect the front of the car from stone chips.
Core – €999: protection for the most important front surfaces
The Core PPF package for the Tesla Model Y Juniper includes:
- Hood
- Front bumper
Core focuses on the two large painted surfaces at the front of the car.
Who is Core for?
For example, a driver who mostly drives on highways but wants to keep the protection budget at around a thousand euros.
Core is also an option when keeping the hood and front bumper looking good matters more than protecting the other body parts.
The package does not include, for example, the front fenders, headlights, side mirrors or lower door edges.
Essential – €1,699: wider protection and more peace of mind for high-mileage drivers
The Essential PPF package for the Tesla Model Y Juniper includes:
- Hood
- Front bumper
- Front fenders, 2 pcs
- LED light bar, 3 pieces
- Side mirrors, 2 pcs
- Fog lights, 2 pcs
Essential extends the Core package to the other parts of the front that are exposed to stone chips.
Who is Essential for?
We recommend considering this option especially if you drive about 20,000–40,000 kilometers a year, 20% of your driving is on highways (80 km/h and up) and you want more complete protection for the front of the car.
If you plan to drive the car for 3+ years, wider front-end protection matters even more.
Advanced – €1,899: the front end and everyday wear areas
The Advanced PPF package for the Tesla Model Y Juniper includes:
- Hood
- Front bumper
- Front fenders, 2 pcs
- LED light bar, 3 pieces
- Side mirrors, 2 pcs
- Fog lights, 2 pcs
- Lower door edges up to the horizontal body line, 4 pcs
This is our own favorite for many Model Y owners who use their car actively.
Advanced combines wide front-end protection with the everyday wear areas that the Essential package leaves out.
The price difference to Essential is 200 euros. If these extra areas are exposed to wear in the way you use your car, we think the extra investment is justified.
Who is Advanced for?
For a driver who drives a lot, uses the car all year round, drives the family and plans to keep the car for, say, 4–6 years.
If we had to give one protection recommendation to a typical high-mileage Finnish Model Y owner with no other information, we would start the conversation with the Advanced package.
That does not mean, however, that every customer needs exactly this package.
Ultimate Gloss – €4,499: protection for all painted exterior surfaces
The Ultimate Gloss PPF package for the Tesla Model Y Juniper includes PPF on all painted exterior body parts of the car, excluding the taillights.
The goal is to also protect the painted surfaces that the smaller packages do not cover.
Who is Ultimate Gloss for?
For a driver who wants to keep the paint in the best possible condition, drives a lot or keeps the car for a long time – while keeping 100% of the car’s original color and gloss.
Full-car PPF is also an interesting option when the color is especially sensitive, for example black, red or blue, and even small marks on the paint bother you.
It is still good to remember that PPF does not prevent all damage and does not guarantee that the car will keep its resale value.
Ultimate Matte / Satin – €4,799: protection and a new look
Matte and satin PPF gives wide paint protection and at the same time changes the look of the car’s surface to something more stylish and sporty. Your car stands out from other factory cars with a more individual, sportier and more premium matte or satin finish.
For example, a gloss black or white Tesla Model Y Juniper can be turned matte without changing the car’s original paint color. This does not require changing the car’s technical data with Traficom.
Who is Ultimate Matte / Satin for?
For a driver who wants both the widest PPF protection and a more premium look.
When choosing matte or satin PPF, also consider its care: cleaning and maintaining a matte surface has its own specifics.
Interior – €149: protection for interior touch surfaces
Includes:
- Front screen
- Rear screen
The Interior package protects the surfaces of the car’s screens from everyday use.
Who is Interior for?
Especially for families and drivers who want fewer scratches on the screens.
The package can be combined with exterior PPF.
Which protection package would I choose for my own Tesla Model Y?
Price alone does not decide it. Two identical Model Y Junipers can need completely different protection.
Budget under €500 – a low-mileage city driver
Recommendation: Basic €299 or Basic Plus €497
A good fit if:
- you drive about 5,000–15,000 km a year
- most of your driving is in the city
- you plan to keep the car for a relatively short time
- you want to protect selected wear areas affordably
If your main concern is stone chips on the front, I would rather save up for the Core package than buy Basic for the wrong need.
Budget around €1,000 – a driver who mostly drives on highways
Recommendation: Core €999
A good fit if:
- you regularly drive on highways
- you want to protect the hood and front bumper
- you do not want to pay for wider protection of the body parts
Budget around €1,700–2,000 – an active driver or a family with children
Recommendation: Advanced €1,899
A good fit if:
- you drive 15,000–40,000 km a year
- you drive both in the city and on highways
- you plan to keep the car for several years
- you want to combine front-end protection with everyday wear areas
At this budget, Advanced is often more attractive than Essential, because for 200 euros more you get several additional protected areas.
Budget over €4,000 – an owner looking for the most complete protection
Recommendation: Ultimate Gloss €4,499 or Ultimate Matte or Satin €4,799
A good fit if:
- you want to protect all painted exterior surfaces
- you plan to keep the car for a long time
- you want maximum protection and peace of mind when using the car
- you particularly value keeping the car looking its best
Ultimate Matte is also a good fit when you want to change the visual look of the car.
What if I don’t want PPF on the whole car?
Then a combination of PPF and ceramic coating is worth considering. It is our customers’ most popular combination.
PPF gives physical protection, for example against stone chips and abrasion. The main job of a ceramic coating is to make the surfaces easier to keep clean and to reduce dirt sticking to them, thanks to its hydrophobic, water-repellent surface.
A ceramic coating does not replace PPF when it comes to stone chip protection.
For example, for a high-mileage Model Y owner we can plan a solution where the front of the car and the most exposed wear areas are protected with PPF and the remaining painted surfaces get a ceramic coating.
This is one of the combinations worth considering before deciding on full-car PPF.
Tesla Model Y Juniper – other useful protection and finishing services
PPF is only one part of protecting a car. The comfort, look and surface care of a Model Y can also be improved with other treatments.
Ceramic coating
A ceramic coating suits a driver who wants to make washing the car easier and keep the paint looking neat.
Before coating, we check the condition of the paint and do at least a one-step polish.
How much does a ceramic coating cost for the Tesla Model Y Juniper, and what does it include?
- Detailing wash
- One-step polish
- Ceramic coating with a 3-year warranty
- Interior cleaning
For a new, undriven Tesla Model Y Juniper the package costs €809 for light colors and €869 for dark colors.
Windshield protection film
The windshield is exposed to stone chips, studs and other debris flying from the road.
Windshield protection film can reduce the damage from some impacts, but it does not make the glass unbreakable.
Protection film for the Tesla Model Y Juniper windshield costs €799.
Light tinting
The look of the lights can be changed with various tinted protection films, but not all tints are allowed in road traffic.
That is why it is important to check that the film is legal before choosing and installing it.
Color wrap and colored PPF
If you no longer like the original color of your new Juniper, the look of the car can be changed with a wrap.
Traditional colored vinyl is especially suited to changing the look. Colored PPF combines a change of look with paint protection.
The materials do not have the same properties, though, so the choice is made based on your goal.
Price example: a satin black wrap for the Tesla Model Y Juniper costs €3,887 with traditional vinyl and €5,187 with colored Satin Black PPF. In this case the prices include a meticulous 3-hour wash program that prepares the car for wrapping. The price is noticeably affected if the car’s original color is light. Please confirm the final price with our customer service.
Interior protection and finishing
Besides the screens, interior surfaces exposed to wear can be protected with suitable films.
Interior door sills, glossy trim strips and other touch surfaces are best assessed based on the car’s actual interior version.
There are also treatments for protecting and caring for seat materials. The product is always chosen based on the material.
A leather coating gives you peace of mind and freedom of use if coffee or Coca-Cola spills or splashes on the seat, or if jeans leave blue marks on the seats.
Tesla Model Y insurance or PPF – do you need both?
A new Tesla owner often compares insurance policies and thinks about which kinds of damage the car should be covered for.
Here there is an important difference between PPF and insurance.
Car insurance gives financial protection under the terms of the policy. PPF, on the other hand, aims to prevent certain physical surface damage before it happens.
For example, a stone chip can leave a small mark on the hood that is not worth repairing considering the deductible or the policy terms.
PPF can reduce this kind of small paint damage, but it does not guarantee that it will not happen.
Likewise, PPF does not replace comprehensive insurance, motor liability insurance or glass coverage. That goes without saying.
The film is also not an insurance product, and the price paid for it is not an insurance premium.
A good way to think about it: insurance helps financially when covered damage happens. PPF is preventive protection for the surfaces of the car where you want to reduce the risk of damage.
It is also worth checking with your own insurance company how aftermarket protection films are taken into account in case of damage. In the most common cases, the protection film is a covered item under the at-fault party’s motor liability insurance or under comprehensive insurance.
Should you protect a Tesla Model Y Juniper right when it is new?
If you have already decided to install PPF, protecting the car as early as possible usually makes sense.
At that point, the paint has not yet had time to collect as much damage from use.
We have had customers who booked their protection appointment before the new car was delivered, even 6 months in advance. It is often also the easiest option for scheduling.
The car can also be protected later, but unfortunately the damage that has already appeared on the paint of the Tesla Model Y Juniper can no longer be removed then. Before installation, we check the condition of the paint and assess any need for preparation. If the car is new and has been driven less than 100 km, a proper wash is all it needs before the protective film goes on.
Frequently asked questions about protecting the Tesla Model Y Juniper
Is PPF worth it on a new Tesla Model Y?
If you drive a lot, want to reduce paint damage from stone chips and plan to keep the car for several years, PPF can be a justified investment.
For a car that is driven little, used for a short time or leased, smaller protection or just a ceramic coating is usually the more sensible choice.
How much does PPF for a Tesla Model Y cost?
The packages in Restyling Point’s Model Y price list start at €299. The wide Advanced package costs €1,899 and full-car Ultimate Gloss €4,499. The list price of the matte Ultimate protection is €4,799.
The final price for the Juniper version is confirmed based on the body style and the scope of work.
Tesla Model Y Juniper protection prices
Does PPF survive a Finnish winter?
High-quality PPF that is installed and cared for properly handles the coldest Finnish weather just as well as Finland’s ice hockey team handled Switzerland in the 2026 World Championship final.
Frost, road salt and winter washes still place high demands on both the material and the installation. At Restyling Point, we have that covered.
Can PPF damage the paint?
PPF that suits the paint and is installed and removed correctly is, as a rule, not meant to damage original paint in good condition.
There can be risks, however, for example with a surface that was repainted (not painted at the factory) poorly or has not fully dried or bonded, or with the wrong removal technique.
In other words, if your car is new and its paint is original, the risk of the paint coming off is 0.00%.
Is ceramic coating as good as PPF?
Not for the same purpose. PPF gives physical protection against stone chips and abrasion, while the main benefit of a ceramic coating is easier cleaning and chemical resistance of the surface. They are two different products, explained in more detail in our article.
Does PPF protect the car’s resale value?
Paint in good condition can be an advantage when selling the car. PPF can help keep the paint in good condition, but its effect on the resale price cannot be promised in advance.
Is it worth protecting all the exterior paint of a Tesla Model Y Juniper with PPF?
If your goal is the widest possible protection of the painted exterior and peace of mind, full-car PPF is worth considering.
If, on the other hand, you want the most benefit from a limited budget, protecting the front end and the wear areas can be the better choice.
