Buying a new Mercedes-Benz CLA is a big decision for many people. Once the car is on order or has just been delivered, one question often comes up: how do you keep its paint, its gloss and its well-kept look for as long as possible?
Should you protect your new CLA with paint protection film (PPF), is a ceramic coating enough, or would it make the most sense to combine the two?
The short answer: PPF protects selected surfaces of the car against mechanical wear, such as stone chips and light scratches. A ceramic coating, on the other hand, makes the car easier to keep clean, makes the surface more water-repellent and helps it keep a well-kept look. They solve different problems, and for many CLA owners the most sensible option is a combination of both.
The right protection depends above all on how much you drive, what kind of roads you drive on, how long you plan to keep the car and how complete the protection you want is.
Editor’s note: This article is based on the new-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026.

1. Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026 – what to keep in mind when protecting the car
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA represents a new generation of the model line. It comes in all-electric and hybrid versions, and the CLA range also includes the Shooting Brake body style. The new design, the lighting details, the large glass surfaces and the modern interior make the car easy to recognize.
The equipment of the new CLA also affects which surfaces can be protected and how the film is installed.
Details worth noting include, for example:
- Front bumper and hood: areas exposed to stone chips and other mechanical wear on the highway.
- Front rocker panels and lower doors: surfaces worn by sand, gravel and other dirt thrown up from the road.
- Headlights and front lighting elements: their structure, materials and suitability for film must be checked separately.
- High-gloss trim: eye-catching details that easily show marks in everyday use.
- Interior screens and trim strips: surfaces that may pick up marks from touching and cleaning.
The new CLA also comes with a large panoramic glass roof. Since the glass roof is not a painted body panel, it is not automatically part of full-car PPF protection.
Where should protection be focused?
If the car is driven mainly on the highway, protecting the front bumper, the hood and the front fenders is a natural starting point.
In city and family use, the inner door sills, the trunk loading area and other surfaces that get touched become important too.
If the goal is to keep the whole exterior looking even for years, it is worth comparing the wider PPF packages.
Not every surface needs the same protection. What matters most is to know how your own car is really used and to choose a solution that fits.
2. PPF or ceramic coating for the Mercedes-Benz CLA?
PPF, or paint protection film, is a clear or colored film that forms a physical protective layer on the car’s surface. Its purpose is to reduce mechanical surface damage, especially on the protected areas.
A ceramic coating, by contrast, forms a thin protective layer on the car’s surface, specific to each product, whose main benefits are water repellency and easier cleaning.
| Feature | PPF | Ceramic coating |
|---|---|---|
| Stone chip protection | Yes, within the limits of the product and the impact | Not real stone chip protection |
| Light scratch protection | Yes, depending on the product | Not real scratch protection |
| Easier washing | Depends on the material and surface treatment | Yes |
| Water repellency | Depends on the product | Yes |
| Keeping the car looking good | Reduces surface damage | Makes upkeep easier |
| Purpose | Mechanical protection | Easier surface care |
A ceramic coating should not be seen as a cheaper but otherwise similar alternative to PPF. A coating does not replace the physical stone chip protection of film.
On the other hand, installing PPF on the whole car is not necessary if the owner mainly wants a car that is easier to wash and stays glossy.
For many new CLA owners, a combination that works well is PPF on the high-risk front-end areas and a ceramic coating on the other painted surfaces.
In some cases, a compatible coating can also be applied on top of PPF according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
3. Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026 – PPF packages and prices
Restyling Point’s PPF packages offer five different levels of protection. The smallest packages focus on specific wear areas, while the widest ones protect a much larger part of the car’s exterior.
| PPF package | Protection | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Rocker panels, lower door edges and other low-lying areas | €449 |
| Core | Front bumper and hood | €1,199 |
| Essential | Wide front-end protection | €1,699 |
| Advanced | Essential + Basic | €2,099 |
| Ultimate | Agreed protection of the whole exterior | €4,599 |
Prices will be updated from the Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026 model price list. At the same time, any differences between the sedan and the Shooting Brake, and limits that depend on equipment, will be confirmed.
Basic PPF – protects the rocker panels and the low wear areas
Price for the Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026: €449
The Basic package includes:
- Rocker panels, 2 pcs
- Lower edges of the front and rear doors, 4 pcs in total
- Lower edges of the front fenders, 2 pcs
- Rear bumper corners, 2 pcs
Basic focuses on areas that take wear, for example from sand and gravel flying up from the road.
The package suits CLA owners who want to reduce the marks of everyday use, especially on the lower parts of the car. It can bring peace of mind in normal use without a bigger investment in protecting the whole car.
Basic does not, however, protect the front bumper or the hood. For someone who drives a lot on the highway, it is therefore not a complete answer to stone chips on the front end on its own.
Core PPF – front bumper and hood
Price for the Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026: €1,199
The Core package includes:
- Front bumper, 1 pc
- Hood, 1 pc
Core is a straightforward option when the main goal is to protect the key painted surfaces at the front of the car.
For example, a CLA owner who drives every day from Helsinki to Espoo or Vantaa, or takes longer trips on country roads, may appreciate not having to worry as much about every small stone flying up from the road.
Core does not include the front fenders, headlights, side mirrors or rocker panels.
It is a sensible choice when the customer wants to focus the protection budget specifically on the front bumper and the hood.
Essential PPF – wider front-end protection for the Mercedes-Benz CLA
Price for the Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026: €1,699
The Essential package basically includes:
- Front bumper and a suitable lower diffuser
- Hood
- Front fenders, 2 pcs
- Suitable wheel arch trims of the front fenders, 2 pcs
- Headlights, 2 pcs, if film is allowed and suitable
- Separate fog lights, if the car has them and they can be protected
- Front parts of the side mirror caps, 2 pcs
The front lighting and trim of the new CLA have details specific to the model, so you cannot assume every part can take film just from the package name.
Essential is especially well suited to owners who want wider protection for the front end and drive a lot on highways and country roads.
The benefit for the customer is then not limited to protecting individual painted surfaces. You can use the car with more peace of mind when the most important areas at the front have been taken care of before the first signs of use appear.
Essential does not include the rocker panel protection of the Basic package.
Advanced PPF – front end and rocker panels at the same time
Price for the Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026: €2,099
Advanced combines the contents of the Essential and Basic packages.
It therefore includes the front-end areas of Essential plus the Basic rocker panels, lower door edges, lower front fender edges and rear bumper corners.
This option is especially interesting for CLA owners who drive a lot. Besides the stone chip exposure at the front, the protection also covers the lower parts of the car.
Advanced may suit, for example, a customer who:
- Drives 25,000–40,000 kilometers a year.
- Uses the car all year round.
- Drives a lot on highways and country roads.
- Wants to keep the car looking clean for several years.
The emotional benefit of Advanced is the feeling that the car’s most important wear areas have been taken care of as one whole.
The package does not, however, mean full-car PPF protection. For example, the full outer surfaces of the doors and the large painted surfaces at the rear of the car remain outside the separately defined protected areas.
Ultimate PPF – the most complete exterior protection
Price for the Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026 Ultimate Gloss: €4,599
Price for the Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026 Ultimate Matte or Satin: €4,599
Ultimate is Restyling Point’s widest PPF package.
Its purpose is to protect the agreed body-color exterior surfaces and other separately defined suitable parts.
On the CLA, the protected areas include, where suitable:
- Front bumper, hood and front fenders
- Headlights and any separate fog lights
- Side doors and the suitable surfaces of the door handles
- Rocker panels and lower door edges
- Side mirror caps
- Rear fenders and suitable wheel arch trims
- Painted side rails above the side windows, if the car has them
- Trunk lid
- Rear spoiler, if the car has a part that can take film
- Rear bumper
The fixed panoramic glass roof of the new CLA is not covered by PPF protection of a painted roof. Not all trim parts, glass surfaces, interior surfaces and special materials are automatically included in the package either.
Ultimate Gloss aims to keep the car’s original glossy look. Ultimate Matte gives the car a different, matte look with a suitable film. Material availability, price and suitability are checked car by car.
Ultimate suits CLA owners who want the widest possible mechanical surface protection and plan to keep their car for a long time.
An essential value of this package is also peace of mind: the owner does not have to wonder in the same way whether some large painted surface should have been protected after all.
PPF still does not make the car damage-proof. Deep impacts, dents and stresses beyond what the film can withstand can still damage the surfaces.
4. Inner door sills, door handles and loading area of the Mercedes-Benz CLA
Not every protection need calls for a wide PPF package.
Everyday use of a car also causes local wear, which can be reduced with carefully chosen protective films.
Inner door sills get touched by shoes, bags and passengers, for example. Protecting them can be especially useful in family use.
The trunk loading area is another practical area to protect, especially if you regularly lift bags, strollers, sports gear or other items into the car. The right area to protect depends on the actual bumper design of the sedan or the Shooting Brake.
The door handles and the area around them can be protected if the materials and the shapes of the parts allow an installation that is invisible and works.
The interior screens, center console and glossy trim strips of the new CLA may also make owners think about PPF. The Mercedes-Benz MBUX Superscreen depends on the car’s equipment, and putting film on it requires a separate check of the material and suitability.
It is not a good idea to put the same film on every plastic, screen or touch surface. The right solution also takes into account how the surface works and looks.
5. Ceramic coating and detailing for the Mercedes-Benz CLA
PPF is not the only way to keep a new car looking good.
A ceramic coating and careful detailing can be a very sensible investment for a customer who values cleanliness, gloss and easy upkeep.
Washing, inspection and polishing of the new CLA
Even a new car does not necessarily have flawless paint.
Transport, storage, pre-delivery handling and washes can leave contamination or light marks on the surface.
Before the ceramic coating, the paint is cleaned carefully and its condition is inspected.
A light one-step machine polish is always done, even on a new car. Its purpose is to make surface defects less visible and to prepare the surface for the coating.
Not every new car needs heavy multi-step polishing. The scope of the work depends on the actual condition of the car.
Ceramic coating for the paint
The main benefit of a ceramic coating is that the car is easier to keep clean.
When the paint repels water and dirt comes off more easily, washing the car can feel much less of a chore.
This is a practical advantage especially for customers who use their car every day but do not want to spend time on its upkeep all the time.
A ceramic coating helps the car keep a well-kept look, but it does not protect against real stone chips or make the paint scratch-proof.
Price of a ceramic coating for the CLA 2026: detailing wash + one-step polish + ceramic coating + light interior cleaning = €810–948 (brand-new car that has not been driven, glass roof; the price depends on whether it is high season or not)
Ceramic coating for the wheels
Cleaning the wheels of a Mercedes-Benz CLA can take time, especially with complex wheel designs.
A wheel coating makes it easier to remove brake dust and other dirt from the suitable treated surfaces.
The coating is useful for customers who want to keep their wheels clean without unnecessarily laborious cleaning.
It does not protect the wheels against curb damage.
Price of a wheel coating: €299–369, depending on the wheel type and the season (wheel with few spokes / wheel with many spokes)
Leather and interior coating
Depending on the equipment, the CLA’s interior can use different leather, synthetic leather, fabric and other surface materials.
A suitable interior coating can help keep dirt under control and make the surfaces easier to clean.
Especially in family use, this can make everyday life more pleasant.
Before the coating, the upholstery material and its compatibility with the product are checked.
Price of an interior coating: €279–306 (5 seats)
Glass coating
The purpose of a glass coating is to make the treated glass more water-repellent and easier to clean.
It can be useful, for example, when driving in the rain and with the dirt of the winter season.
A glass coating does not, however, repair stone chips, remove the need for wipers or make the glass maintenance-free.
Price of a glass coating: €279–306 (“Sedan” glass coating package, no panoramic roof)
6. Window tinting for the Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026
Window tinting can change the look of the car, add privacy for passengers and help control sunlight.
Tinting can be especially interesting in family use or when you want to make the rear seats more comfortable for passengers.
Depending on the properties of the film, it can help control heat and UV radiation. The darkness of the film alone does not, however, tell you everything about how it performs.
On the CLA, we check the shape of the windows, factory tinting, heating elements and other technical features.
Current Finnish road traffic regulations also affect which windows can be tinted afterwards.
Price of window tinting for the Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026: €379–399 (rear window + small rear side windows + rear door windows)
7. Wrapping the roof, mirrors and chrome parts – chrome delete
Not every customer wants to change the color of the whole car, but many want to personalize its look with small details.
On the CLA, for example, the look of the trim around the windows and of the exterior mirrors varies by trim level. Mercedes-Benz also offers dark details as part of the Night package.
Chrome delete wrapping can change the look of suitable chrome or other trim strips, for example to black.
Wrapping the mirrors and other individual exterior parts may also be possible if the material and shape of the parts allow it.
Since a large part of the new CLA’s roof is glass, the traditional black wrapping of a painted roof may not be sensible on this model, or may not be doable in the same way as on a regular metal roof.
The main job of a vinyl wrap is to change the look. It does not offer the same mechanical protection as PPF designed for that purpose.
8. Color change for the Mercedes-Benz CLA – vinyl wrap or colored PPF?
If the original color of the car does not quite match what the owner wants, the look of the whole car can be changed with a wrap.
There are two options.
- A traditional vinyl wrap lets you change the color or finish of the car without repainting the whole car. Options can include, for example, gloss, matte or satin finishes, depending on the range of materials.
- Colored PPF combines a change of look with the mechanical protection of the film material, depending on the product.
The materials differ in price, protective properties and the technical requirements of installation.
A vinyl wrap suits customers whose main goal is a unique look. Colored PPF is an interesting option if, besides the look, you also want to protect the paint.
For both options, what can be done and the final scope are assessed based on the parts and surfaces of the CLA.
9. Which protection package is right for your Mercedes-Benz CLA?
There is no single right protection package for every CLA owner.
The examples below help show how different ways of using the car affect our recommendation.
1. A new CLA mainly for city driving
If you do not drive very much and easy upkeep matters most, a package worth considering is a ceramic coating plus PPF on the individual areas that get touched.
2. A CLA for lots of highway driving
When you drive a lot and the risk of stone chips at the front is higher, Essential is a well-founded choice. Advanced adds protection for the lower parts as well.
3. A CLA for long-term family use
If you plan to keep the car for several years, Advanced or Ultimate plus protection for the inner door sills and a suitable loading area may be interesting.
4. Keeping the CLA looking as new as possible
If the goal is the widest agreed mechanical protection of the exterior and the most even look possible, Ultimate is worth considering. Compatible surface treatments can also complete the package.
These are starting recommendations, not automatic choices. The final package also depends on the condition of the paint, the equipment, the budget and the customer’s own goals.
10. Why protect your Mercedes-Benz CLA at Restyling Point?
Protecting a car is not only about the film or coating used.
It is just as important how the work is planned, how the surfaces are prepared, how precisely the installation is done and how the finished car is inspected.
At Restyling Point the work proceeds step by step, from assessing the customer’s needs to the installation and the quality check.
Before the work starts, we assess the condition of the car’s surfaces, plan the areas to be protected and make sure the chosen materials are suitable.
In a PPF installation we pay attention, for example, to how the film settles, how the edges are finished and whether the result matches what was agreed.
Cases where film is not worth installing are also part of professional advice.
If the shape or material of a part creates an unreasonable risk, or protecting it brings no real benefit to the customer, one option may be to leave that part unprotected.
The customer receives care instructions and warranty terms for the work done. The material warranty of the product, the warranty on the installation and the coverage of external damage are separate matters that should be understood before ordering.
The goal is for the customer to know exactly what will be done to their car, why this particular package was chosen and what they can expect from the result.
11. Frequently asked questions about protecting the Mercedes-Benz CLA
Should you protect a new Mercedes-Benz CLA right away?
If you want to reduce the first signs of use on the paint, protection is worth planning before the car is delivered or as soon as possible after. This way you can also avoid having to repair damage later.
Is a ceramic coating enough protection for a new CLA?
A ceramic coating can be an entirely appropriate solution for a customer whose main goal is easy care and a clean look. If the goal is protection against stone chips, you need suitable PPF for that.
Is PPF visible on the paint of a Mercedes-Benz CLA?
The goal of quality clear PPF is a result that is as invisible as possible. The film edges and its optical properties can still be noticeable in certain lighting, from certain viewing angles or on certain textures.
Can a ceramic coating be applied on top of PPF?
Yes, if the coating is compatible with the PPF material used and the manufacturer’s instructions are followed. As a rule, we will not even sell you a coating on top of new PPF, because the film already has a naturally water-repellent hydrophobic top coat that wears off in about 0.5–2 years; only after that is a ceramic coating worth considering 🙂
Does a brand-new CLA need polishing before coating?
Not necessarily a deep polish. Cleaning and inspecting the paint are essential, but the need for polishing is assessed based on the actual condition of the surface. Even so, at least a one-step polish is always done on the paint, even if the car is new.
Can PPF damage the paint when it is removed?
That is impossible if the paint is 100% original from the factory.
Does PPF protect the resale value of a Mercedes-Benz CLA?
PPF can help reduce cosmetic damage to the paint. Good paint condition can be a plus for a buyer, but a specific increase in resale price or getting the cost of protection back cannot be promised.
When should you book protection if your CLA has not arrived yet?
It is worth starting to plan protection as early as when you order the car. Once the expected delivery date is known, a suitable package of services can be planned and the timing of the work discussed.
12. Summary – what is the most sensible protection for the Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026?
When protecting a Mercedes-Benz CLA, the most important thing is not to automatically choose the widest or the cheapest package.
The right solution comes from what the owner wants to avoid when using the car and what they consider most important.
If the main goal is to reduce stone chips at the front, PPF is the right option.
If what matters most is easier washing, gloss and a well-kept look, a ceramic coating may be enough.
If you expect both mechanical protection and easy upkeep from the car, a combination of the two gives the benefits of both methods.
The best choice is the one whose benefits match your own use and whose content and limits are clear to you.
