Right after installation:
Before delivering the car, the ceramic coating has dried and cured for at least 24 hours. After this, the car should not be washed for two weeks. If washing is necessary, only rinsing with water, no chemicals. The washing ban is because the chemical compound of the ceramic coating needs to crystallize peacefully. If the car is washed with chemicals during the crystallization process, it may affect the durability of the ceramic coating.
General:
Ceramic coatings are actually quite a young invention as they are constantly being updated and improved. Ceramic coating is a descendant of waxes, a more durable chemical protective coating.
Ceramic coating comes with its own warranty and is based on scientifically researched factual results provided by the coating manufacturer. The realistic lifespan of a ceramic coating is 1-3 years, depending on car care habits and mileage. Regular and careful car washing can extend the lifespan of the ceramic coating.
Restyling Point does not chemically manufacture the products/materials it installs, such as ceramic coatings. We innovatively keep an eye out for new products, test them, and constantly search for the latest and best chemical technology so that our customers get the highest quality products in car care. The warranty provided by Restyling Point is the warranty provided by the ceramic coating manufacturer, so in case of any complaints, the matter is handled with the manufacturer’s representatives. Our task is to find the best possible material for the customer, which is currently available in our industry, and install it in the most durable way possible on the customer’s vehicle.
Ceramic coating usually wears out in areas where there is sandblasting effect, such as areas near the tires, bottom edges of doors, and the front end. Only tape or PPF remains in these areas. Read more about the differences between ceramic coating and PPF here.
For this reason, in the aforementioned areas, the hydrophobic property wears off over time and the coating disappears from those areas.
External factors that wear ceramic coatings include: stone chips, scratches, types of dirt accumulated on the car’s surface, and mechanical abrasion during washing.
Thus, the realistic durability of a ceramic coating is partially influenced by the customer themselves.
Cleaning:
Winter Wash: From October to March is the dirtiest season when the car needs to be washed regularly by hand for the best washing result and to keep the car’s paintwork in good condition. Hand washing the car is the gentlest form of washing, causing the least scratches and holograms to the car.
During winter, it’s important to wash away road salts with a solvent and iron particles / fly rust with an iron remover.
Each type of dirt requires its own chemical, designed to remove the specific type of dirt. If a strong “all-around” detergent were used, it would affect the durability of the ceramic coating, so it’s important to wash the car correctly or to use hand washing.
Summer Wash: In summer, the only harmful form of dirt is insects, which dry in the sunlight and adhere strongly to the car’s surface, making them difficult to wash off except by polishing. When polishing, the ceramic coating is removed from that spot.
On hot days, you can avoid insects sticking and polishing by regular washing and immediate hand washing of the car after long trips.
The condition for effective washing is not hard rubbing or the high pressure of a pressure washer, but the correct washing sequence with appropriate chemicals.
Waxing: There is no need to wax the car after ceramic coating treatment because wax is a weaker substance than ceramic coating and it may not even adhere to the surface of the ceramic coating. The durability of waxes is from weeks to a few months.
Quick Detailers & Boosters: Quick Detailers sprayed onto the paint surface during car washing provide a short-term hydrophobic effect. The use of these should be confirmed with the ceramic coating installer. Not all Quick Detailers are suitable for all ceramic coatings so that they do not affect the durability of the ceramic coating.
In the car care industry, depending on the manufacturer of ceramic coatings, installation companies recommend and may even require maintenance washes / boosters. Generally, maintenance washes are recommended every 3-6 months for some ceramic coatings.
Dangerous Chemicals: The pH indicator is something to pay attention to when choosing detergents. Too alkaline or too acidic detergents affect the durability of ceramic coatings.
The pH Scale is from 1 to 13.5. Acids with a pH below 5 are not recommended for ceramic coatings. Pre-wash detergents may be too acidic, which is why they can even cause chemical damage to matte finishes, such as window trims or paintwork.
Car washing can be done incorrectly, here’s an example. After such incidents, it’s advisable to neutralize the acidic substance with an alkaline substance, such as strong car shampoo (pH 12), and wipe the affected areas with it.
Wheel cleaners are often highly acidic. When splashed onto a ceramic coating, they may affect the coating’s hydrophobicity.
Washing tools: Mechanical abrasion usually occurs with sponges and brushes.
We recommend getting clean, new washing tools to minimize scratches.
Features:
- In winter, the coating may become clogged. Road salt and other chemicals on the road are the cause of this event. The pores of the ceramic coating become clogged, preventing the coating from breathing freely, i.e., being as hydrophobic.
- The use of solvents and iron removal agents opens up this blockage and allows the ceramic coating to function again in the same way.
- In spring during pollen season, the ceramic coating does not reduce the amount of pollen in the car.
- Using a snow brush affects the formation of scratches on the paintwork. It is best to use a leaf blower and blow the snow away.
- In winter, storing the car in a warm garage can even be harmful to the coating, especially in situations where a dirty car is stored in warmth. In such storage solutions, regular washing before driving indoors is recommended.
- If the car is not dried during washing and the wash water is left to dry, it will likely leave lime residues on the car’s paintwork, which may only be removed by polishing in the worst case.
- Acid rain may leave droplet marks on the coating once dried.
